POSITION – Construction Inspector / Engineer (Civil/Structural), Staten Island, NY – day or night, starting immediately.
LOCATION – Reports to the Engineer of Construction for Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals. The position will be at multiple TB&T Facilities reporting to the SIB REO in NYC (Staten Is.)
SCOPE – Work includes the inspection of heavy transportation and building construction work including reinforced concrete, expansion joints, milling and paving, structural steel erection, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems as well as maintenance of traffic. All the listed disciplines may at times be impacted by environmental concerns and all projects must be monitored for safety.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or University. (P. E. a plus).
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $500K to $50 million plus) and complexity (multiple crew and crew sizes per shift).
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Verbal communication including the Engineer of Construction, Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, contract staff and facility staff both in person and via two-way communication.
- Experience in heavy bridge and roadway construction, pile, foundation, and subgrade installation; pavement construction, sitework and utility excavations and installation.
- Experienced in several types of contracting methods including lump sum, unit price and net cost.
- Ability to read plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), controlled inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work.
- Ability to identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer advised of issues.
- Ability to track and estimate Time & Materials work.
- Ability to prepare estimates of extra work. Prepare related sketches and documentation.
- Ability to review plans for constructability and prepare comments.
- Review contractor payment requests and recommend reasonableness to the Resident Engineer.
- Attend progress meetings, partial and final inspection, and document minutes.
- Knowledgeable in contract administration techniques to expedite contract work.
- Ability to work occasional nights, extended and weekend shifts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $500K to $50 million plus) and complexity (multiple crew and crew sizes per shift).
- Valid driver’s license required.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- Confined space certification required.
- NYC Local Law 52 Scaffold certification required.
- Ability to pass a SWAC background check at a high level.
- Familiarity with NYC Building Code.
- ACI certified for Concrete Inspector 1 and Special Inspector.
- ICC Structural Steel Bolting and Welding qualification S-1 and S-2.
- AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) D1.1 and D1.5
